Why this petition matters

Started by Jay Middleton

This historic music hall that has a rich history of music within it is now the victim to the gentrification of Seattle. Onni Group has filed plans to tear down this venue to build a 44 story tower with 442 residential units on the Showbox Property. This is tragic and heartbreaking to every single musician and concertgoer in Seattle. The Showbox at the Market has been active as a music hall since 1939 and has legends like Duke Ellington to grunge heroes Pearl Jam. Lets make this venue a historical landmark to preserve Seattle's rich culture of music and various arts that have graced this venue and keep it going.

I'm passionate about this venue because it is home to the first stage I ever stepped on with a band and performed at. I have a love for this venue, there is a magic inside and you can feel the energy when you walk inside of it. I know for a fact I alone am not the only musician, comedian, and or performer who can say that.
