Why this petition matters

Started by Lymphedema Association of Manitoba (LAM)

The Lymphedema Association of Manitoba (LAM), a non-profit organization established in 2010, provides resources, information, education, awareness, and support for those affected with or at risk of lymphedema.

Lymphedema is a critical health issue that impacts thousands of Manitobans. While the causes are varied, lymphedema requires support and long-term management in all cases in order to avoid costly health care and to lessen the personal impact to the patient. Individuals with lymphedema require ongoing specialized treatment and customized garments to manage this chronic condition.

When the lymphatic system functions well, it helps to keep your body healthy. When the lymphatic system is underdeveloped from birth or damaged, excess fluid may collect in the tissues causing swelling that often develops into lymphedema. Preventative care, early intervention, and appropriate ongoing management are all vital to reduce the disease burden.

In Manitoba, limited publicly funded support is available. Our goal is to change this.
