Majlis Perundingan Gaji Negara mencadangkan RM 1,170 sebulan, Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) mencadangkan RM1500 sebulan, Kongres Kesatuan Sekerja Malaysia (MTUC) mencadangkan RM 1,800, manakala Pakatan Harapan sendiri menjanjikan RM 1,500 tetapi akhirnya Kerajaan Pakatan Harapan tunduk kepada kehendak majikan, iaitu hanya kenaikan RM50 dalam Gaji Minimum.

Minimum Wage increases only RM 50, an insult to the workers in Malaysia

On 5 September 2018, the Office of the Prime Minister has announced that the minimum wage will be increased only RM 50, with the new minimum wage RM 1,050  monthly to be implemented on January 2019. The increase of minimum wage by only RM 50, is an insult to the working class in Malaysia. The National Wage Consultative Council has suggested RM 1,170 monthly minimum wage, Socialist Party of Malaysia (PSM) suggested RM 1,500, Malaysian Trade Union Congress (MTUC) suggested RM 1,800, while the Pakatan Harapan has promised RM 1,5000. Yet, the Pakatan Harapan government finally gives in to the will of employers, by increasing the minimum wage by RM 50 only.

The government is not acknowledging the sacrifices of the workers and sided the employers completely. The workers will continue to be squeezed and suffered with the low wage. After 60 years of repression under the UMNO-BN regime, the people decided to change the government with high hopes that the lives of the people will be improved. Will the increase of RM 50 for the minimum wage will improve the living standards of the people?

We, the workers of Malaysia, reject the increase of minimum wage by only RM 50. We call upon the Pakatan Harapan government to review the minimum wage in order to fulfil its election promises.
