Overturn the separation of an Air Force Airman for being a bisexual man of colour
Why this petition matters
The United States Air Force has separated Ian Williams from the Air National Guard after the recommendation of Captain Fetterman of Lackland Air Force Base for adjustment disorder because he wants to be an astronaut. Captain Fetterman has written a statement derisively making fun of his accent and his dreams of serving his country by joining the space program. This statement was giving to Lieutenant Freeman of Lackland Air Force Base who seconded that recommendation of Captain Fetterman for separation even though Ian Williams qualified to be an officer and a pilot after successfully taking the AFOQT test. Ian Williams is a great contributor to the armed services and works with Veterans. His late departed mother's dying words were for him to become an astronaut and stay true to his dreams of carrying the American way throughout the ages and across the stars.
This is a country full of dreams. The penalty of having a dream and the wrong skin colour is too high. I seek a judgement from the Supreme Court about the equal opportunities of the armed services to those who are not heterosexual and white. Yes, even in 2018 the content of character should always matter than the colour of our skin.
The American flag is an important symbol of hope and triumph over adversity. How far we can go is only limited by our imagination. Mars is right there and I want to be the American who goes there. Even the Air Force knows it too. That is why they were going to submit my package to the selection board before Captain Fetterman became involved. For the myriad of people who are ALL Americans, I care about our space program. I care about this country. The Space Program is a vital part of the identity of our nation. That is worth everything.
