We were disappointed to hear that Garston and Halewood member Sam Gorst was not selected for the panel this week. Sam is a diligent, hard-working Labour Party member who would make a fantastic contribution as a councillor. Rejecting somebody of Sam’s calibre could potentially deter other young members from applying to become councillors. Rather than reject a good candidate because of one statement to the press, why was he not offered media training? If Labour is to become a transformative, member-led movement leading to a socialist Labour government, people like Sam are exactly what we need. - Alan Gibbons
