Microsoft have announced they are discontinuing the proper desktop version of OneNote (currently OneNote 2016) and will instead develop only the cut-down, reduced functionality version of OneNote which is built in to Windows 10 - essentially "OneNote Lite".  They have stated that OneNote 2016 will receive mainstream support until 2020 and extended support until October 2025 - after that there will be no more security updates, thus forcing users over to OneNote Lite.

OneNote 2016 is a great product which many people, companies and organisations use extensively and in many different ways.  There is nothing wrong with offering OneNote Lite for those users who might not need the full feature set of OneNote 2016, but please do not abandon those users who need the full functionality that attracted them to OneNote in the first place.

Microsoft, please reconsider your decision and continue to develop OneNote for desktop.
