Why this petition matters

Started by C F

The Community Corner Cafe in Twickenham has been for the past four and half years exactly what is says on the tin but much more. The cafe has been the perfect place where to pop in for a coffee and play some mornings, as well as a lifeline some other days, when all you need is some support and a smile. Every parent in the local community knows and loves Annie and her fantastic team of volunteers, always ready to welcome their customers with a smile, they have made over the years what the cafe is today. A supportive, fun and fantastic hub where local families can meet, share their stories, and form friendships, a safe and friendly place where our children can play. If the cafe closes its doors in a few weeks it will be certainly missed by the community, parents and childminders, as well by its amazing staff members, most of whom have been dedicating their time for free for years. It is very unlikely that the cafe will be replaced by a similar institution by the Salvation Army, or could it maybe be re-homed in the soon to be available extra space by the Church Hall? Chestnut Pre-school, which has been running for around 20 years from the Church premises opposite the is also being closed down next Spring, leaving children and parents without childcare in the middle of the school year. This is a double blow to the local community. We would like the Salvation Army leaders to take some time to re-asses the fate of the Community Cafe, to come up with better ideas and resources to support the team and to consider moving the cafe to the soon to be empty space by the Church Hall. We believe the Cafe has the potential to thrive if homed on a bigger site, with more tables, facilities and play space. Local parents like myself would be happy to periodically run workshop and activities which would attract more people.
