This petition is an objection to the another petition proposing to put barriers around Manchester Canals. Disregarding the historical nature of the canals which would be destroyed by putting up barriers, such barriers would make recovery of people who have fallen into the canal infinitely more difficult. By comparison many people are killed on Manchester roads, using the same logic all roads should be fenced off only allowing crossing at recognised crossing places. I have every sympathy with those who have lost friends and relatives drowning in canals and rivers but fencing them off is not the answer.
