Stop cycle speed App users from competing on canal towpaths
Stop cycle speed App users from competing on canal towpaths
Why this petition matters
Cycling speed apps where riders chase targets in excess of 36 kilometres per hour are a major cause for concern along the towpaths of the canal network in England & Wales. Cities such as London, Nottingham, Birmingham & even rural routes are seeing an increase in these dangerous speeds used by cyclists, they will not slow down, dismount or stop for dogs, children, families, walkers & any other towpath users. They expect hard of hearing, deaf, sight impaired & elderly people to move instantly on the ding of a bell or a voice command.
Towpaths along the canal system are being promoted as a place for everyone, a space to be shared, however this cannot happen if these speed target chasing cyclists are allowed to continue using the towpaths, Sustrans suggest a sensible maximum speed limit for cyclists which we want to be enforced.
Please sign this petition to give all other towpath users a voice to enable them to continue to use the canal towpaths safely & without fear.
