Why this petition matters

Started by Stephen Hynes

THE HOME OFFICE HAS REVERSED THEIR DECISION AND VALENTINA HAS BEEN GRANTED LEAVE TO REMAIN IN THE UK.

WE ARE SO DELIGHTED, THIS HAS BEEN A VERY TENSE AND STRESSFUL TIME, WE THANK EVERYONE WHO HAS SUPPORTED US AND WILL CONTINUE TO FIGHT FOR OTHERS CAUGHT UP IN THIS DREADFUL SITUATION.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU.

FOR INFORMATION THE TRAIL OF THE PETITION IS BELOW.

UPDATE - THE SHADOW HOME , DIANE ABBOTT HAS VERY RECENTLY DESCRIBED THE HOME OFFICE'S TREATMENT OF OUR CASE AS APPALLING, AND SAYING THE AWFUL PROSPECT OF A MOTHER BEING SEPERATED FROM HER 2 YR OLD CHILD IS 'INHUMANE'.

WE NEED YOUR CONTINUED HELP PLEASE SHARE THIS PETITION, THERE’S STILL A LONG WAY TO GO. WE CANNOT BE SEPERATED BY A GOVERNMENT DEP’T THAT DOES NOT APPEAR TO RECOGNISE THE IMPORTANCE OF A FAMILY BEING TOGETHER.

The Home Office has refused to grant my wife Valentina, acceptance of her Application for Discretionary Leave to Remain in the UK. We have appealed, and won’t hear until February NEXT YEAR, in the meantime I’m left fearing I will lose my wife and our 2 year old son, will lose his mother.

THANK YOU SO MUCH TO ALL THOSE WHO HAVE SUPPORTED US TO DATE.

.The Home Office can reverse their decision quickly - and that’s what I’m calling for - and I need your help to do it.

Until a year ago, we were living in my wife’s home country of Nigeria.  I had a series of mild heart attacks which started in Nigeria and wasn’t detected in the hospital we went to in Lagos, Nigeria when I first presented with symptoms. On holiday in the UK, my symptoms worsened and I was rushed to the hospital where I was diagnosed with a heart attack. I stayed to ensure I had the medical care needed and it meant my wife quickly had to come  to the UK, so we had no time to apply for a spousal visa.

We have now settled in the UK and do not live off the state, neither do we owe anyone. Our son who is British starts school in September, and we live just 10 minutes away from my 89 year old mother who lives alone, we are a huge comfort to her. We have applied for a Discretionary Leave to Remain based on family life referring to our unique circumstances. But the Home Office have refused it.

The possibility that Valentina may be separated from our 2 year child and doting husband not only hurts but feels like an infringement of our right to family life. Families like ours being torn apart is cruel - it is the hostile environment we’ve been hearing about. Why should a child be forced to live without both willing and loving parents?

Whilst being in the UK my wife has not been permitted to work, she has not relied upon any state benefits, she volunteers at local dementia homes - giving something to a society that she is not being allowed to be part of. Valentina is a loving, caring mum who pours love on her son and husband, who has so much gratuitous warmth for everyone she meets. She is a true contributor and has so much to offer our country and society as a whole.

Despite all that has been put in her way, including a miscarriage a month ago, Valentina maintains a truly positive outlook, she does not throw criticism at bureaucracy like others, in her position of frustration, would do. She is a wonderful person who only wants to make life better for those around her.

We really need your support to help us overturn the Home Office’s refusal to an extension of her stay, we do not want to lose her and have absolutely no guarantee that she will be allowed to return to us, the family cannot be broken up.

Please sign the petition and help us stay together. There’s incredible power in unity and numbers

Thank you.
