Bill Cosby was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by George W. Bush in 2002. Since then -- and some even before Cosby was awarded America's highest civilian honor -- over 60 women have accused Cosby of sexual assault, abuse, and rape, some under the influence of drugs.

In April 2018, Cosby was found guilty by a jury of his peers, of three counts of aggravated indecent assault against Andrea Constand, one of his accusers. Needless to say, Cosby is not someone who should be honored by the United States with any award, much less one that is awarded by our head of state.

Currently, there is no way to revoke someone of their Medal of Freedom, though there have been attempts in the past to give the President of the United States such authority. U.S. Rep. Paul Gosar, in 2016, drafted a bill that would grant the President such aforementioned powers, but it has stalled in Congress and no action has been taken on this important issue.

This petition calls on the U.S. Congress to unify behind taking steps, in a bipartisan way, to grant Presidents the power to remove recipients of their Medals of Freedom in extreme circumstances such as that of Cosby's, and further calls on President Donald Trump to condemn Cosby's actions by taking a stand in making efforts to remove him of this nation's highest honor.
