Why this petition matters

Started by Sydney Martin

Sign this petition now to pledge that you will affect positive change in your community. This can be a smile, a high-five, a held door, or anything else. Just be kind and try to be your best self. Your positive attitude will change your community, then change the world.

My purpose for this petition is to reduce stigma and create awareness of depression in teens at my school. I know this is a real problem because it affects many schools around the country and I have interviewed two local psychologists about the community and depression. I chose this topic because, even at my modern high school, there is still stigma and misunderstanding surrounding depression. It’s important that we all, as teenagers in high school and college, know about depression, including its risks, warning signs, and preventions. If we can educate our students about this horrible mental disease, then we can reduce stigma and raise awareness of it, ultimately lowering the number of students affected.
