Most residents fully support and endorse a 20mph limit on all residential roads but 20 mph is too slow for major A & B roads, particularly out of the busy hours of the day, and apart from causing more congestion and traffic fumes it will cause anger, resentment and tailgating against those law-abiding drivers who obey the limit.

Councillor A Ehmann recently claimed that if any reduction in speed limit might reduce accidents and injury then this would be imposed.  However, a degree of proportionality and reasonableness is required since this same argument could justify a blanket 10 mph or even 5 mph speed limit - perhaps preceded by a man with a flag!
