This petition calls on Stanford University to immediately remove Hamzeh Daoud from his role as Resident Assistant (RA) of Norcliffe dorm before school starts in the Fall, in recognition of the violent threats he made against anyone identifying with Zionist beliefs on his social media. 

No threats of violence should be tolerated from RAs at Stanford, who are appointed and employed by the University to guide students under their charge. 

Hamzeh Daoud (Stanford Class of 2020), set to be an RA at Stanford University this Fall, posted publicly on his Facebook that he wants to "physically fight" Zionists on campus. Daoud wrote, “I’m gonna physically fight Zionists on campus next year if someone comes at me with their ‘Israel is a democracy’ bullshit. And after I abolish your ass I’ll go ahead and work every day for the rest of my life to abolish your petty ass ethno-supremacist, settler-colonial state.”

The Facebook post has since been edited, exchanging the word "physically" for "intellectually" and Daoud has written an apology letter in which he claims he "never intended" to harm Jews on campus. These apologies, though clearly necessary and appropriate given the hateful and explicitly dangerous language used, are contradictory and surely not sufficient to allow him to govern students as an RA of a Stanford dormitory. 

Stanford RAs are responsible to "create opportunities for students to build inclusive and reflective environments in which differences of background and belief are explored," and therefore help shape the entire ecosystem of the University in the long run. If Daoud is an RA, pro-Israel students would feel unsafe and unable to vocalize their Zionist interests, values, and attitudes - and, at worst, might be physically assaulted for doing so. Stanford University owes its students a fair and non-violent RA, who will be able to provide them with a safe space in the dormitories.
