The purpose of this petition is to ask DC Entertainment to please start publishing monthly ongoing solo series for African and African American female characters Vixen, Bumblebee, Power Girl (Tanya Spears), etc. 

For too many decades, DC Entertainment has been purposely ignoring the black girls and black women that make up some of the company’s readership, and this is a situation that needs to be rectified. Some of DC Entertainment’s competitors are currently publishing ongoing solo series for their black female characters, so it is appalling that DC Entertainment is severely lacking in this area. 

At the time of the writing of this petition, DC Entertainment is currently publishing five ongoing solo series starring Caucasian females (Wonder Woman, Supergirl, Batgirl, Catwoman, Harley Quinn), so it’s evident that DC Entertainment does not have a problem publishing ongoing books starring females – the company has a problem publishing ongoing books about black females in particular. 

One might ask DC Entertainment why Bumblebee is the only character on the core lineup of the “DC Superhero Girls” web series/TV show to not have her own ongoing comic book while her Caucasian counterparts (Wonder Woman, Supergirl, Batgirl, Harley Quinn) do. Bumblebee’s exclusion from having her own ongoing solo comic book was not a coincidence, this was deliberate. 

The year is 2018, not 1938. The year is 2018, not 1968. The year is 2018, not 1978, which is the year in which Vixen was created and the same year in which she was supposed to be the first African female character to star in her own monthly ongoing book. However, the so-called “DC Implosion” caused her ongoing book to be cancelled even before the first issue was ever published...but that was 40 years ago. Why has Vixen not been given another ongoing solo series for the past 40 years? 

Please, DC Entertainment, if you truly want to be diverse in the books you publish (and we are hoping that you do), then finally begin publishing ongoing solo monthly comic books for Vixen, Bumblebee and all of your other black female characters. This will show black girls and black women that you care about them as part of your readership and your fanbase.
