From 2010, back in the beginnings of mainstreaming Android with FroYo, Swype Keyboard was only available pre-installed in a device - and that made a difference for me when choosing a new Android smartphone. It even made me choose Android smartphones over iOS ones, for that freedom.

Throughout the years, many many others tried to go after Swype's genius, but to not avail, never matching Swype's accuracy, speed and gesturing. That's why it was a highly successful keyboard, even though being paid.

Nuance Communications bought Swype in 2011 and made great developments to it, we must take a bow for it.

However, as of February 2018, Nuance discreetly announced that would halt development for Swype and promptly removed it from Play Store. That would have been another case of "their loss is another one's profit", but in fact it's our loss. No other keyboard available can come close. Many reasons could be pointed out (i.e. availability of words for each glide, gesture shortcuts, automatic behaviour) but the truth is that someone who uses only Swype for years can't simply use any other keyboard.

Not to mention that everyone who bought it from Play Store entered a buy contract in which one pays a single lifetime fee to have it forever in exchange for some support, which is gone now.

It's not our right to force Nuance, a private company, to endure a product which they don't want to carry anymore, but support should be assured and Swype is a genious idea that shouldn't come to an end.

The goal of this petition is either to make Nuance know that we all care much for Swype and not only we miss it, but also we may disregard Nuance's products in the future fearing the same end as Swype's, trying them to continue offering Swype; or to convince Nuance to give away Swype's source code and rights (for free or for money) for someone who's willing to carry on with its development.
