Why this petition matters

Started by Edward Tippelt

How often do software / firmware updates cause problems with your phone because the manufacturer has not tested them thoroughly?  You are then left with a load of hassle to get your equipment operational again.  I would like to see the "Computer Misuse" act extended to cover ANY updates that vendors supply. If they cause your equipment to malfunction, then they have to bear the entire cost of correcting the problem within seven days, or supply replacement equipment. After all, if their software damages the equipment you own, then it is no different to a virus or malware in general, and that is technically a criminal offence already.

There is no technical reason that equipment such as mobile phones cannot be rolled back to a previous software release - it is just a ploy by vendors to get you to update your equipment when it fails.
