I have been since years in the animal-protecting area. I saw so many animals, wounded, tortured, dying, and now since month this theme came into my Focus: Pit Bulls in USA´s Shelters. I get so many Posts, asking for help for a pit bull in death threat. Never Forget: Behind an animal in pain are many, many humans, suffering with them.

According to Pit Bull Recue Central (PBCR) 200 pit bulls are euthanzied in Los Angeles County animal shelters every single day.
„For homeless pit bulls the death sentence is alway automatic“, emphasizes PBCR.
Villalobos Rescue Center has to say: „The pit bull population has now risen to 40 % of all the dogs in 12 shelters in L.A. Almost half of the entire L.A: ´s dog population is pits or pit mixes. Most are strays, tossed out like dirty laundry. IT IS HEARTBREAKING.“ Plight of pit bulls is not limited to L.A.County: Nat Geo Wild infographic (2013) reveals these numbers:

- 60 percent of the total dogs euthanized in US Shelters are PIT BULLS
- 30 percent of the total dogs adm: to shelters are labeled PIT BULLS
- 86.7 percent of pit pulls admitted to open admission shelters are euthanized

Euthanasia (from Greek: εὐθανασία; "good death": εὖ, eu; "well" or "good" – θάνατος, thanatos; "death") is the practice of intentionally ending a life in order to relieve pain and suffering (wikipedia/euthanasia)

Stereotyping particular dog breeds as „aggressive“ perpetuates an ugly and unjust stigma in minds of uninformed people. This stigma leads literally to the euthanasia by breed in many animal shelters, killing, based on the „race“, a horrendous practice!

WORST PART: THERE EXISTS NO SUCH THING AS A PIT BULL!
Bark Post explains, the pit bull lebel is just an „umbrella term that most people use to refer to different types of dogs
- The American Pit Bull Terrier
- The American Stffordshire Terrier
- The Staffordshire Bull Terrier
- And mixes thereof, and any dog that vaguely resembles these dogs

Pit bulls are brilliant dogs – with consequent educational steps, correct guidance and training, when they get a second chance to show it.

At least some myths:
- Pit bulls are unpredictable
- More likely to bite than other dogs
- Pit bulls cannot live peacefully with other dogs, cats, children
- and many more
Organizations, like CDC, NCANDS, NOAA, ASPCA, Humane Society UScommitted to engaging and serving local communities of people and animals, providing several programs. And many groups of private helpers for pit bulls. Watch social media and you´ll find YOUR GROUP.
