Stop Killing Idaho Wolves on Public Land
Stop Killing Idaho Wolves on Public Land
Why this petition matters
Governor Butch Otter of Idaho is waging and all-out war against wolves and endangered Canada lynx on public lands in Idaho. Wolves were removed from the endangered species list for political reasons in 2013 and Idaho, with the help of the federal Wildlife Services, is slaughtering wolves as they leave Yellowstone National Park. Governor Otter has encouraged the public to help kill wolves and indications are that the 600 remaining in Idaho are in serious trouble due to shooting from aircraft, trapping, and tracking with dogs (which is also killing the endangered Canada lynx).
Governor Otter is killing wolves on behalf of commerical hunting outfitters and ranchers who have strong political power in the states and in Washington. Though research shows wolves kill very few cattle or sheep and that they help balance the ecology of areas where they live, these commercial interests foment wolf hatred. Wolves pose no threat to elk or deer populations and in fact make them healtier.
Most of the wolves being killed in Idaho are in federal wilderness areas that belong to all Americans and are managed by the US Forest Service. Vow to boycott Idaho as a vaction destination and ask Governor Otter and US Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack to stop the killing now.
