The Naked Rambler, Stephen Gough, is currently in jail in England for doing nothing more than hiking naked.  This may seem like a trivial, almost comical, issue.  But it goes to the heart of what it means to be a tolerant and civilized society. 

We hold that there is nothing offensive or intrinsically sexual about the naked human body.  Jailing a man simply for refusing to wear clothes is a violation of his human rights and freedoms.  It is an imposition of a taboo based on religious and cultural traditions that have no logical justification. If the purpose of the judicial system is to protect society from harm, then imposing the majority attitudes on an individual who is doing no harm is an arbitrary application of justice and a misuse of the rule of law.

Just as the Crown has apologized to Alan Turing for the way the system abused him simply because of his homosexuality, we ask that the crown release Stephen Gough and apologize for incarcerating him without proper cause.
