UNISON Yorkshire and Humberside: Support the rights of EU citizen colleagues working in our universities
We the undersigned call for Vice-Chancellors at Yorkshire’s Universities to publicly support the rights of EU citizens working in higher education to continue working and living in the UK post BREXIT. They should also match this with material action to support their staff in terms of both lobbying the government and also more immediate financial, legal and contractual support.
Yorkshire and Humberside UNISON has written to the Vice-Chancellors of the region’s ten universities, asking them to publicly back the rights of EU citizens working in their respective universities during the BREXIT negotiations.
There are 45,000 EU citizens working in the Higher education sector in the UK (11% of the HE workforce). These individuals play an invaluable role in making Britain’s university sector one of the best in the world. They face an uncertain future whilst Britain negotiates its exit from the European Union. Universities need to protect their residential and working rights.
These universities are: Bradford University, The University of Huddersfield, The University of Hull, Leeds University, Leeds Beckett University, Leeds Trinity University, University of Sheffield, Sheffield Hallam University, The University of York and York St John University.
