We have reached an important milestone. Thank you all for your support. Here are some important facts to consider: * Grand River Hospital spent around $12,000 to cover extra staff and physicians for the day. * The University of Waterloo hired six patrol officers and 18 security guards for the event, costing a total of $10, 000. * 619 charges laid, including one case of sexual assault. There are additional costs being tallied. When that's added to the aggregate, you can bet it won't be the students who caused the mayhem to pay for it. It will be the rest of us. I'm not living under a delusion that I alone have the power to shut the street party down with this petition. That power comes from each and every one of us who are sick of this mess that happens year after year after year. Tradition be damned. The residents of Ezra Avenue and the rest of the Region deserve a break from drunken hooliganism. I have 362 days until the next St. Patrick's Day, and I will continue to promote this petition. I will continue to make the Region Council aware of the importance of shutting this party down. Starting April 1st, I will pay change.org $5 once a month to give this petition a little oomph of visibility. I will also continue to ask for your help.
