Rep. Langevin, we ask that you join the sixty-six other Representatives, including Rep. Cicilline, in co-sponsoring H.R. 1299, The Berta Cáceres Human Rights in Honduras Act. The Act calls for a suspension of U.S. security aid to Honduras until human rights violations committed by the Honduran security forces cease. The Honduran security forces have been implicated in repression against activists and, even though a U.S.-trained military intelligence official has been charged in Berta’s murder, those who ordered Berta’s murder remain free. In addition, environmental and Indigenous leaders continue to be threatened, attacked, and criminalized. Cutting financial support to the Honduran military and police would help to end these human rights violations and begin to bring justice and peace back to Honduras. This bill also demands full investigation and prosecution into the murders of Berta Cáceres, 100 small-farmer activists in the Aguán Valley, Joel Palacios Lino and Elvis Armando García.
