Introduce Sir Nicholas Shehadie Trophy at Rugby World Cup
Introduce Sir Nicholas Shehadie Trophy at Rugby World Cup
Why this petition matters
The rugby world lost a giant with the death of Sir Nicholas Shehadie.
Sir Nick's role in Australian and international rugby can never be underestimated -- first as a Wallabies forward and then, more importantly, as an administrator. Without him, the Rugby World Cup would not have started in 1987. He and New Zealand Rugby Union chairman Dick Littlejohn relentlessly lobbied International Rugby Board delegates to get involved, one of whom told Sir Nick that the World Cup "would be staged over his dead body".
Sir Nick won't won't be forgotten by those who love the game they play in heaven, but World Rugby should move to recognise more tangibly one of their best servants by introducing the Sir Nicholas Shehadie Trophy to be awarded to the Rugby World Cup Player of the Tournament from Japan 2019.
