Why this petition matters

Started by AATF-NH

The University of New Hampshire has just made significant cuts to lecturer positions in several departments in the College of Liberal Arts.  Cuts to lecturer positions will directly affect the quality of education at the University as well as the course options available to students.  Students at UNH should expect to have access to a wide-range of courses that will prepare them to succeed in an increasingly global economy.

Long-serving and committed lecturers in French, Spanish, Arabic, ESL, English, History, and Political Science have been informed that their contracts will not be renewed.  It is not yet clear what other programs have been affected.  We must make our voices heard, so that students can take the courses they need with the qualified teachers they deserve.

Steps you can take to help:

2.  Send a personal message by email, phone, or regular mail (especially important for alumni and donors) to express your concern with these cuts.

3.  If you are a NH tax payer: Please write to business.services@unh.edu to request the COLA/UNH budget, so you can see for yourself where the money is going.

To Whom It May Concern:
I have recently learned that the University of New Hampshire is cutting important teaching positions in the humanities and especially in languages.  I am a concerned citizen and taxpayer in New Hampshire and I'm writing to request information on the COLA budget and the University as a whole.  I need to understand why positions that directly affect students’ learning are being cut when it appears that the University has funds for projects that do not directly affect education.
Please send information about the budget to:
Your name, address, and e-mail.

4.  If you live in NH, contact your state senators and representatives to remind them of the importance of studying a language and having qualified teachers to help students reach their goals.
