NO NYC Garbage to Gas Plant in Stony Point, in Rockland, on the Hudson River
Why this petition matters
The NYSDEC is reviewing a proposal by New Planet Energy (NPE), to truck 1.2 million tons of garbage each year from New York City to Stony Point, NY. Using an untested technology, NPE will "gasify" the waste to produce highly flammable synthetic gas. New Planet Energy's last attempt at gasification ended in failure at Vero Beach Fl. where, as part of the gasification process, produced deadly hydrogen cyanide forcing them to close down.

The site of this boondoggle is the 87 acres toxic waste Super Fund site in Stony Point known as the Kay-Fries site. It will spew 69,000 tons of CO2, 6,900 tons of N2O, and produce 10.5 tons of hazardous waste.
The site is in the Hudson River floodplain, located near homes, West Haverstraw Elementary, Helen Hayes Hospital, a Senior Housing Project and ShopRite Shopping Center.
