Why this petition matters

Started by Brooks and District Chamber of Commerce

The City of Brooks passes its budget in one meeting. That means taxpayers are expected to foot the bill without any way to comment on it first! The Chamber of Commerce believes its time for this to change!

So:

Whereas the Residents and Business located in the City of Brooks fund the City of Brooks with their taxes;

And Whereas the Mayor and Council of the City of Brooks are elected by the residents of the City of Brooks to represent their views through a democratic process;

And Whereas in an elected democracy budgets and laws should not be passed without public consultation;

Therefore: We the Undersigned hereby petition the City of Brooks to let the public see the complete city budget and provide feedback on it after it has received first reading, but before it is passed into law.

PLEASE NOTE! The Municipal Government Act does not recognize this petition as legitimate because it is online. If you live in the City of Brooks and want to sign our petition, please head down to the Chamber Offices at 4-403 2nd Street West or call us at 403 362 7641 and we will come to you! Even if you are not a local, we are asking you to sign the online petition to let elected officials know that this isn't okay!!!
