Christians under serious threat in Mosul, Iraq

We the undersigned call upon the President of South Africa and the Foreign office to take decisive and immediate action to support the thousands of innocent Christians and others in Mosul, Iraq who are currently facing the threat of murder, rape, forced conversion to Islam and FGM.

The Christians in Iraq are in a modern day Holocaust. They are being forced from their homes and given options to leave on foot or die by the sword by the terrorist group ISIS. They need help in many forms to be able to leave the country for safety. Even if someone does not believe in this religion or any religion for that matter, these are crimes against humanity that shouldn't be happening. Crimes against humanity are being committed and the RSA has the means and money to help.

We ask you to work to ensure safe passage for these people, to work with relief and development agencies to ensure they receive food, water, shelter and medical attention, and to listen proactively and quickly to the informed voices of organisations working on the ground in the area, offering whatever help is most needed there.
