Is it fair???

My son Oliver 4y4mth has been diagnosed with hypermobility syndrome and flat feet. He is unable to walk for a long time climb the stairs, drive scooter or bicycle as he starts complaining of pain or just being too tired to do anything. Because of hypermobility syndrome his gross motor skills are very poor, in his case equivalent to 2 years old child! He is suppose  to start school in September but still hasnt been allocated any school to meet his needs. We have asked Richmond admission department to put Oliver as a priority on waiting list for second closest school to our house based on the fact that school is single story building only ( no stairs) And outside play area is divided for smaller children and bigger children.  That will enable Oliver to move throught the school without puting unnecessary strain on his joints, and play outside without risking of him being accidentally pushed of harmed by older children. Regardless medical evidence and doctors recommendation we have provided, Richmond admission department refused to put Oliver under special circumstances to offer him priority on the waiting list for that school!  What makes it worse, they have offered special circumstances place on waiting list to a child with same diagnosis like my son!
We find it incredibly discriminating to give priority to one child but refused other and looking for a justice!

Could you please help us by signing this petition to support our son to be reconsidered and put on the waiting list as a priority to second closest school to our house to give him a higher chance of getting a place at school of which can support his medical needs better? We are also asking Educational Department to stop local councils abusing their power and take full responsibility for their action. For them it's only a job but for our children ...it's their future!   Joint hypermobility syndrome can cause:

  • joint pains, particularly after physical work or exercise – due to overstretching of the joint capsule (the structure that surrounds the joint) and ligaments (tough bands that link two bones together at a joint)
  • muscle aches and pains because your muscles have to work harder with supple joints
  • back pain and neck pain
  • a tendency to bruise easily
  • pain that gets worse through the day and better at night, after you have rested
  • fatigue (extreme tiredness)
  • night pains in children( Oliver wakes up at least 3 times /night)

Joint hypermobility syndrome can cause symptoms that affect your digestive system. A series of muscles squeeze food through your digestive system. - in my sons case it's also constipation and he is on daily medication to help him empty completely .

There is also increased risk of injuring joints – for example, by partially or completely dislocating them (when the joint comes out of its correct position). Joints, particularly the shoulder or knee-cap, can dislocate if overstretched.

Oliver is starting intensive physio therapy and occupational therapy to ease his pain but he still need a place at school of which can support him further!

Thank you all for your help !

Oliver x
