In a general sense, beginning to restrict the usage and manufacture of replica firearms, such as BB guns, air guns, and airsoft guns is a dangerous proposition as it begins to pave the way for further firearm restrictions.

In California, similar regulations have been passed, and have been completely ineffective, due to the fact that gangs and other criminals have taken to painting their real firearms to fool police. This only makes the line that much more blurry for law enforcement, and endangers them as well as the general public.

It needs to be made clear, the guns in question are not toy guns. They can hurt people, and as such need to be treated as an actual firearm. Because of this, training and education on how to properly handle them is the answer, not changing the colors or any other characteristics of them.
