Why this petition matters

Started by Heather Garczynski

On March 16, 2014, 18 month old Pit Bull Khaos was shot and killed by police that were responding to a loose dog call.  According to a witness at the scene, Khaos was only five feet away from the door to the front of his house and was not aggressive in any way to the officer.  The responding officer crouched down and called the dog.  Khaos turned and walked away from the officer confirming the officer was not in imminent danger.  Although Khaos did not approach the officer, was retreating and posing no threat, he was shot and killed.   Please sign this petition to send a clear message that killing our family pets is unacceptable.  We also demand that documentable Dog Encounter training must be mandatory for all law enforcement officers at the Harrison Township Police Department when subduing loose dogs.  How many of our family pets have to die at the hands of untrained officers who misread what is and what is not aggressive behavior in dogs?
