Why this petition matters

Started by Tavon Lewis

According to Human Resources Policy: Policy Number HR610

It is the policy of Johns Hopkins Health System Corporation (JHHSC) and The JOHNS Hopkins Hospital (JHH) to allow employees or employee candidates to request not to participate in an aspect of patient care, including treatments that conflict with their personal cultural values, personal ethics or religious beliefs.

According to Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964

Tavon was denied a religious accommodation, suspended, and discharged because of his sincere held religious beliefs in retaliation for engaging in a protected activity in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Those activities include the works of religious groups that use cannabis in various activities such as a religious sacrament for prayer, celebration and medical use.

Tavon reported an incident of harassment then sought more information about it with his facility manager Tom Gietz in front of Lindsey Barnes Director of Lab Animal Management and a liuna union representative. Afterwards, Tavon was sent home since he did not feel well. Tavon was later contacted and told to bring a union rep when he returned to work and to agree to be placed on a program which no information on was given until he was escorted to occupational health for a fitness of duty evaluation and drug test.

He requested not to participate since the program and the suggestion to use marinol conflicted with his sincere held beliefs and verbally asserted his right to religious cannabis which was ignored by Tom Gietz. This was witnessed by Michael Ferretti and a African-American nurse. A request to Michael Ferretti a representative of liuna union for a grievance was made which was also refused and taken as a joke.

It was later found that Rasiah Massey of Johns Hopkins University (who did not evaluate him) gave testimony against him when in fact Therese Craig evaluated him and documented his sincere held religious beliefs of his cannabis use. Tavon claims sovereignty of his personal health and did not consent to anyone speaking on his behalf. It is written. This lead to the fraudulent denial of his unemployment benefits even after he submitted documented evidence. This is continuous violations of his civl rights and fraud. A Legal Remedy of Compensatory and Punitive Damages would be natural justice for the continuous violations of his civil rights and fraudulent denial of his unemployment insurance.

Support should given to petitions like this because our rights, in ignorance and in retaliation are being taken from innocent individuals daily which should not be taken lightly. I started this petition due to the discovery of that fact in history, my situation and being I have evidence of fraud and discrimination and they still disagree. This will make a difference to educate others of their GOD given rights as well as encourage and inspire victims to stand up for their rights.

Inquiries regarding discrimination complaints may be directed to the Vice Provost, or the Director, Garland Hall 130, Homewood Campus, 410-516-8075. http://trustees.jhu.edu/office and http://webapps.jhu.edu/jhuniverse/administration/
